This is one of the Sidney Sheldon novels which i read most recently. This is the most off beat novel written by Sheldon. It has nothing to do with the usual business and entrepreneurs that he writes about rather this novel is based on Aliens, global warming, military secrets and operations carried out to fight the Invaders. The novel has a protagonist Commander Robert Bellamy at its core who is chosen to carry out the operation without his knowledge of what the operation is about. The novel involves numerous brutal murders and lots of drama.

The novel provides an interesting read however it is not as much entertaining as Sheldon’s other works. The murder gets a little bit too much and the ending seems like it was made in quite hurry. The pace of the rest of the book seems slow in comparison to the end, which is absurd and awry.

The story seems boring with just one character at its core keeping in mind the fact that this one runs over 450 pages. The suspense and thrill which are characteristic of Sheldon are quite good too but since the base plot is not that good even the other nice characters of the book are overlooked. And the time when Robert runs from the force it becomes a little too much when every time he is able to escape even though the whole world is up against him.

Also the change of mood of the girl Pier who accompanies Robert and takes him to her home is quite baseless and confusing. There are little bits of the love story of Robert and his ex-wife Susan which have been presented in scattered form across various chapters. Some things have not been upturned and left confusing by the author like the fact was Susan enjoying her second marriage.

Overall this was an interesting novel but not one of those that leave a lasting impact on the reader. It was just a below average novel which is very un-Sidney-Sheldon-type.
